6:05 p.m. — the step out
Flashbulbs sound like rain on a tin roof. A girl behind the barrier shouts my character’s name, not mine, and honestly that is the better compliment. I borrow a lipstick from Sofia — “Harbour Red”, obviously.
8:12 p.m. — inside
The ceremony is warm, the speeches run long, and my shoes have officially declared war. An usher finds me plasters. I have never been so grateful for anything. We do not win our category; we cheer like we did.
